LIY - LEARN IT YOURSELF

In today’s era, education is not only confined to reading or writing. It is now linked to the holistic development of the children. The National Education Policy of India 2020 (NEP 2020), aims to transform India's education system. The objective of this reformation of the Indian education system is “No child will be left behind”.  It is intended to fill the gaps in the current education scenario.

Nowadays the teaching pattern is switching from by-hearting the syllabus to experiential learning or hands – on learning. Schools are encouraging students to learn in a way that can help them, not just today but also in the future. As the name suggests, learning by doing refers to performing activities and experiencing the concepts and processes rather than just mugging up the syllabus. So, we can say, NEP 2020 is brought for the ‘learning to learn’ approach.

Students can touch, feel and understand the concepts in this form of learning. This is the reason S.P.M English School, Pune is leaving no stone unturned to help students to experiment with their knowledge and are providing them different opportunities to showcase their skills and enhance their thinking capabilities. Let’s leave behind the old methods of teaching and catch up with the new trend that is

# LEARNING BY DOING. Hence our entire focus was to achieve this goal.

Learning material exhibition (Ingenious) was organised by the pre- primary and primary teachers of our school. Learning materials for different subjects were curated by the teachers.

Fun activities to learn language effectively were exhibited. When students think of fun memories of school, maths class likely won’t be the first to pop into their heads. But that doesn’t have to be the case, there are approaches to enliven your maths lessons. And that is exactly what we have created here, fun activities to learn maths concepts like fraction games, 3D nets etc. For an interesting subject like science we have curated simple DIY experiments and also forayed at making sensory materials. For abstract subjects like history and geography, we thought that the children should get the grasp of these subjects with “Touch, Feel and Fit” way. Keeping this in mind the conceptualization of magnetic maps of India took shape. In history, we created timelines on walls comprising the evolution of man, prominent leaders of India etc. The teachers were zealous to explain the use of these learning materials effectively. The innovative ideas and hard work of the S.P.M staff was indeed commendable. Ingenious was  conducted keeping the NEP guidelines in mind by the S.P.M staff which will benefit students in numerous ways.
